APOLLINARIS, CAIUS SULFICIUS, a very learn-
ed grammarian, born at Carthage, lived in the 2d cen-
tury, under the Antonines; he is supposed to be the
author of the verses which are prefixed to the comedies
of Terence, and contain the arguments of them. He
had for his successor in the profession of grammar Hel-
vius Pertinax, who had been his scholar, and was at
last emperor.
