ARVIL SUPPER, a feast or entertainment made at funerals, in the north part of England. Arvil bread is the bread delivered to the poor at funeral solemnities: and arvil, arvol, arsal, are used for the burial or funeral rites; as,
Come, bring my jerkin, Tibb, I'll to the arvil;
Yon man's dea scuy scoun, it makes me marvil.
