CIRTA, in Ancient Geography, the metropolis and royal residence, not far from the river Ampelaga, in the inland parts of Numidia Propera. A colony, furnished Colonia Sittianorum, very rich, when in the hands of Syphax. The colony was led by one P. Sittius, under the auspices of Cæsar, and was furnished Julia.
