CLARUS, or CLAROS, in Ancient Geography, a town of Ionia, famous for an oracle of Apollo. It was built by Mantó, daughter of Tiresias, who fled from Thebes after it had been destroyed by the Epigoni. She was so afflicted with her misfortunes, that a lake was formed with her tears, where the first founded the oracle. Apollo was from thence furnished the Clarus. Also an island of the Ægean sea, between Tenedos and Scios.
