CORCYRA, in Ancient Geography, an island in the Ionian sea, opposite to Thespotis, a district of Epirus, called Seberia and Phaaria by Homer. In Callimachus it is called Drepane; its most ancient name, according to the Scholiast, from the curvity of its figure. Famous for the shipwreck of Ulysses and the gardens of Alcinoos. Now Corfu.
