HILLSBOROUGH, a borough, fair, and post-town, in the county of Down, and province of Ulster, 69 miles from Dublin. Here is a fine seat of the earl of Hillsborough. The town is pleasantly situated and almost new built, in view of Lisburn, Belfast, and Carrickfergus bay; the church is magnificent, having an elegant spire, as lofty as that of St Patrick's in Dublin, and seven pointed windows. Here is an excellent inn, and a thriving manufacture of muffins. It has three fairs, and sends two members to parliament. This place gives title of earl to the family of Hillsborough. N. Lat. 54. 30. W. Long. 60. 20.
