HISPALIS, a town of Bætica, in the Farther Spain; an ancient mart or trading town on the Bætis, navigable quite up to it for ships of burthen, and thence to Corduba for river barges. Called Colonia Romulensis. It had also a conventus juridicus, a court of justice or affizes, (Pliny). Now called Seville. W. Long. 6. N. Lat. 37.
