SAVANNA LA MAR, a town of Jamaica, situated in the county of Cornwall in that island.—It is the county-town, where the assize courts are held. This town was almost totally destroyed in 1781 by an earthquake and inundation, when many of the inhabitants perished. It has now an elegant court house, and contains about one hundred other houses. It belongs to Westmoreland parish, in which are 39 sugar-estates, 106 other estates, and 18,000 slaves.
