HYPERCRITIC, an over-rigid censor or critic; one who will let nothing pass, but animadverts severely on the slightest fault. The word is compounded of ὑπερ, super, over, above, beyond; and κρίτης, from κρίνω, judex, a verbal form of κρίνω, judico, I judge.
