JULIERS, a fortified city of Prussia, the capital of a circle of the same name, in the province of Aachen or Aix-la-Chapelle. It stands on the river Roer, the water of which fills the ditches that surround the walls. The citadel is a very strong frontier defence. It contains 460 houses, and 3290 inhabitants.
