ALLENDORF, a bailiwick in the grand duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, containing one city and eight other places, with 4332 inhabitants. The city, of the same name, stands on the river Lumbde, and contains 1179 inhabitants. The chief employment is husbandry, assisted by some manufactures of hosiery. The bailiwick, though in the dominions of Hesse-Darmstadt, is a patrimonial domain of the mediatised family Von Rabenau.
