AMORGO, an island in the Archipelago, to the south-east of Naxos. The chief town has the same name. The island, with some smaller ones adjoining, is about 430 square miles in extent, and the population amounts to about 2500, all Greeks, who raise good harvests of oil, wine, and fruits.
