ASCHAFFENBURG, a bailiwick in the circle of the Lower Maine, containing 10,635 inhabitants, in one market-town and 18 villages, besides several small hamlets. It lies on both sides of the Maine, is mountainous and woody, but produces good wine and cider, and feeds many herds of black cattle.
