BAUTZEN, the capital of the circle of Lausatia, in the kingdom of Saxony. It is situated on the banks of the Spree, on an elevation 580 feet above the level of the sea, and celebrated as the scene of the last battle which Buonaparte gained in his campaign in Germany in 1813. Bautzen is a great manufacturing town for hosiery, gloves, linen, woollen, and cotton goods, as well as for paper, leather, and other commodities. The number of inhabitants is about 13,500.
