LOTOPHAGI, in Ancient Geography, a people of the
Regio Syrtica (so called from their living upon the lotus), inhabiting the country between the two Syrtes, from the Cinyphus to the Triton. The lotus was said to be so luscious a food as to make strangers forget their native country.
