DIOPTASE of Hauy; the rhombohedral emerald malachite of Mohs. This is a very rare mineral; it occurs in crystals of small dimensions, of a brilliant emerald green colour, disposed in limestone, and is only found in the Kirghese steppes, Siberia. See MINERALOGY, Index.
