DISS, a market-town in the hundred of the same name, in the county of Norfolk, ninety miles from London. It is built on one of the upper branches of the river Waveney. There is a good market, which is held on Friday. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 2246, in 1811 to 2590, in 1821 to 2764, and in 1831 to 2934.
