ELOGY, a praise or panegyric bestowed on any person or thing, in consideration of its merit. The beauty of eulogy consists in an expressive brevity. Eulogiums should not have so much as one epithet, properly so called, nor two words synonymous; they should strictly adhere to truth, as extravagant and improbable eulogies rather tend to lessen than exalt the character of the person or thing they would extol.
