MEERJAOW, a town of Hindustan, in the province of Cascara, which stands upon an inlet of the sea, and is supposed by Dr. Robertson to have been the Musiris of the ancients. It was nearly destroyed by Hyder Ali, when he invaded the province in 1773. The forests in the neighbourhood abound with teak timber; they also produce black pepper spontaneously, and cassia and wild nutmegs are common. It is eighty miles SSE. from Goa. Long. 74. 36. E.
