MERNITCH, a town of Hindustan in the province of Bejapoor, situated on the banks of the Krishna, and formerly the capital of a Hindu principality, and afterwards the capital of different Mahratta chieftains. It was taken by Hyder in 1778. Long. 75. E. lat. 16. 56. N.
