CANZONETTA, a diminutive of canzone, denoting a little short song. The canzonette Neapolitane have two strains, each of which is sung twice over, as the vaudevilles of the French. The canzonetta Siciliana is a species of jig, the measure of which is usually twelve eighths, and six eighths, and sometimes both, as rondeaus.
