CASTELVETRO, LUIGI, a native of Modena, of the sixteenth century, famous for his Commentary on Aristotle's Poetics. He was prosecuted by the inquisition for a certain book of Melanchthon, which he had translated into Italian. He retired to Basel, where he died.
