CALMAR, a province of Sweden, formed out of the eastern part of Smaland, and the island Oeland. It is bounded on the north-west and north by Lenkoping, on the east by the Baltic Sea, on the south by Blekinge, and on the west by Cronberg and Jonkoping. The extent is 4312 square miles. The population is 148,396, inhabiting four cities, one market-town, and 3485 villages.
