GETHSEMANE, in Ancient Geography, a village in the Mount of Olives, whither Jesus Christ sometimes retired in the night-time. It was in a garden belonging to the village that he suffered the agony in which he sweated drops of blood; and here also he was arrested by Judas, and the rest who were conducted by that traitor.
