GORLITZ, a city of Prussian Silesia, the capital of a circle of the same name. It stands on the river Neisse, in an elevated spot, and is a well-built town, with walls around it. It contains several public institutions for education and for benevolence, and eight churches, a public library, and cabinet of natural history. The houses are 169, and the population 9900 inhabitants, who are industriously employed in various trades and manufactures.
