PHILIPPISTS, a sect or party amongst the Lutherans, who followed Philip Melancthon. He had strenuously opposed the Ubiquists, who arose in his time; and the dispute growing still hotter after his death, the members of the university of Wirtemberg, who espoused Melancthon's opinion, were called by the Flacians, who attacked it, Philippists.
