PLANIMETRY, that part of geometry which considers lines and plain figures, without regard to their height or depth.

PLANISPHERE signifies a projection of the sphere and its various circles upon a plane; in which sense maps, on which are exhibited the meridians and other circles of the sphere, are planispheres.
