PLANIMETRY, that part of geometry which considers lines and plain figures, without regard to their height or depth.
PLANISPHERE signifies a projection of the sphere and its various circles upon a plane; in which sense maps, on which are exhibited the meridians and other circles of the sphere, are planispheres.
PLANT is defined to be an inorganical body, destitute of sense and spontaneous motion, adhering to another body in such a manner as to draw from it its nourishment, and having a power of propagating itself by seeds. See ANATOMY VEGETABLE, BOTANY, PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY, and VEGETABLE PHYSIOLOGY.
