PRESTONPANS, a parish and town of Scotland, in Haddingtonshire, about eight miles east from Edinburgh. It has considerable salt-works and manufactures of earthenware, bricks, tiles, &c. It was in the fields to the south of the village that in 1745 Prince Charles Edward defeated the King's troops, under Sir John Cope. The population of the parish in 1831 amounted to 2377.
