QUEDLINBURG, a city of the Prussian province of Saxony, situated on the river Bode, which was formerly the capital of an independent ecclesiastical state, under the abbess of that name. It contains eight Catholic churches, is surrounded with walls, and has an ancient palace, with an extensive library, 1720 houses, and 11,500 inhabitants.
