HEILIGENSTADT, a city, the capital of the circle of the same name, in the province of Saxony, in Prussia. It stands at the junction of the rivers Geislade and Leine. It is surrounded with walls, contains four churches, 560 houses, and 4530 inhabitants, who are employed in the woollen trade, and in distilleries.
