HELMOND, a town of the Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant, on the river Aa, which flows through it in three branches. It is defended by a strong castle, and contains 500 houses, with 2492 inhabitants, who carry on considerable trade in linen yarn, linen cloth, and especially damask table-cloths and napkins.
