CALATANISSETTA, one of the intendencies into which the island of Sicily is divided. It is bounded on the north by Palermo, on the east by Catania, on the south-east by Seragosa, on the south by the sea, and on the west by Girgenti. It is divided into three districts, viz. Calatanissetta, Pinza, and Terranova, and contains 155,225 inhabitants.
