ESPALION, an arrondissement of the department of the Aveyron, in France, extending over 639 square miles. It is divided into nine cantons and 101 communes, and contains 63,376 inhabitants. The capital is a city of the same name, situated on the river Lot, on which are some mills for spinning cotton, and establishments for curing various kinds of leather. It contains 2038 inhabitants.
