DAVENTRY, a market-town in the hundred of Fawley, in Northamptonshire. It is an ancient place, situated near the two rivers Nene and Avon. The only manufacture is that of horse-whips. There is a good market on Wednesday. The inhabitants amounted in 1801 to 2583, in 1811 to 2758, in 1821 to 3326, and in 1831 to 3646.
