COLUMBIA, a post-town in Richland district, South Carolina. It is situated opposite to the confluence of the Saluda and Broad Rivers, which here unite to form the Congaree. The town is a handsome and flourishing place, and is the seat of the state government. The population amounts to about 4000. Long. 81. 7. W. Lat. 33. 57. N.
