CORAN, the capital of the above district, situated nearly half-way between the Ganges and the Jumna. The town is surrounded by a mud-wall with mud towers, and the houses are mostly built of brick; but most of them are constructed of mud, and have flat roofs. It has a considerable trade in grain and cotton; and is a large and flourishing town, where formerly was a mint. The travelling distance from Lucknow is 67 miles, from Agra 184, from Delhi 301, and from Calcutta by Birbhoom 655 miles. Long. 80. 40. E. Lat. 26. 6. N. There is also a village of this name in the province of Gutch, situated about ten miles south of Luckput Bunder, on the road from that place to the sea-port of Mandavee. The surrounding
