MURANO, a city of Italy, in the delegation and government of Venice. It is situated on a lagoon to the north of that city. It contains fifteen churches, but only 3690 inhabitants. It was formerly very celebrated for its various fabrics of glass, but these have greatly declined, and the population has also diminished. Some looking glasses are still made.
