MYRTOUM MARE, a part of the Ægean Sea, lying between Eubœa, Peloponnesus, and Attica. It receives this name from Myrto, a woman; or from Myrtus, a small island in the neighbourhood; or from Myrtulus the son of Mercury, who was drowned therein.
