NAUMBURG, a city of Prussia, in the government of Merseburg, the capital of a circle of its own name. It stands on the river Saale, in a fertile district, contains a castle and six churches, a fine market-place, and (including the suburbs) 1130 houses, with 9320 inhabitants. It has several institutions for the education of the various classes, and much trade in leather, iron, beer, corn, spirits, wool, and other articles, which is promoted by some fairs of long continuance.
