NAVE, in Architecture, is the body of a church, where the people are disposed, reaching from the baluster, or rail of the door, to the chief choir. Some derive the word from the Greek ναυς, a temple, and others from ναυς, a ship, by reason that the vault or roof of a church bears some resemblance to a ship.
