WOTTON-BASSET, a market-town in the county of Wts and hundred of Kingsbridge, eighty-nine miles from London. It stands on a gentle eminence, which commands an extensive view, and consists of one long street. It is a poor place, with mean houses, and has an inconsiderable market on Friday. Until 1832, it returned two members to parliament. The population amounted in 1821 to 101, and in 1831 to 1896.
