ZLOCZOW, a circle of the Austrian kingdom of Galicia, bounded on the north and north-east by Russia, on the south-east by Ternopil, on the south by Brezazari, and on the west by Lemberg. It extends over 2024 square miles, comprehends six cities, nineteen market-towns, and 29 villages, with 208,950 inhabitants. It is a level and moderately fertile district, watered by the river Bug and its numerous tributary streams. The capital, likewise called Zloczow, is situated between woods and marshes.
