ULEABORG, the most extensive circle of the Russian province of Finland. It is bounded on the north by Norway, on the east by Archangel, on the south-east by Kupio, on the south by Wasa, on the south-west by the Gulf of Bothnia, and on the north-west by Sweden. It extends over 46,266 square miles, comprehending three towns, 1302 hamlets or farms, with 80,800 inhabitants. The capital is the city of the same name, situated at the mouth of the river Ulea. It has 360 houses, mostly of wood, and 3500 inhabitants, who build ships, and are employed in the export trade, which consists of tar, pitch, butter, tallow, wax, dears, and cured fish.
