SERAMPEI, a country or district in the interior of the island of Sumatra. It has on the north and north-west Korinchi; on the east, south-east, and south, Pakalang, Jambce, and Sungei-tenang; and on the west and south-west, a river and chain of high mountains. It comprehends fifteen fortified and independent villages.
