SERPENS, in Astronomy, a constellation in the northern hemisphere, called more particularly Serpens Ophiuchi. The stars in the constellation Serpens are, in Ptolemy's catalogue, eighteen; in Tycho's, thirteen; in Hevelius's, twenty-two; and in the British catalogue, sixty-four.
