SERPENTARIUS, in Astronomy, a constellation of the northern hemisphere, called also Ophinechus, and anciently Esculapius. The stars in the constellation Serpentarius are, in Ptolemy's catalogue twenty-nine, in Tycho's fifteen, in Hevelius's forty, and in the British catalogue seventy-four.
