NEUSTADT, a city of the government of Opplen, in the Prussian province of Silesia, and the capital of a circle of the same name. It stands on the river Braune, sometimes called the Prudnick, and is surrounded with walls. It contains one Lutheran and two Catholic churches, a convent of the order of mercy, 446 houses, and 4520 inhabitants, who produce much linen and woollen cloth, and some cotton goods.
