OBY, or OUBY, a small island in the Eastern Seas, fifty miles long, and from twelve to twenty broad. The sovereignty of this island is claimed by the sultan of Bactrian, who has a pearl fishery on its coasts. On this island live many runaway slaves, who cultivate cloves, which they sell to the Buggessers. The Dutch have a small fort on the western side of the island. Long. 124. 56. E. Lat. 1. 36. S.
