BRIDGE, in Gunnery, the two pieces of timber which go between the two transoms of a gun-carriage.
The term Flying-bridge is applied to a kind of floating-bridge constructed of pontoons, casks, or the like, for transporting an army across a river. It is sometimes anchored in the middle of the stream, and is so contrived as to be moveable from one side of the river to the other. See PONTON.
