BROWNE, Sir Thomas, an eminent physician and celebrated writer, descended of an ancient family in Cheshire, was born at London, October 19, 1605. After studying at Winchester School, and at Pembroke College, Oxford, he travelled through France and Italy; and returning through Holland, he took his degree of M.D. at Leyden.
